Das Vielzahn-Profil ist ein Sicherheits-Profil mit zwölf kleinen Zähnchen. Die einzelnen Zähne sind im Vergleich zu TORX sehr fein. Die Kraftverteilung ist durch die zwölf Zähne jedoch sehr günstig. Ähnlich wie beim TORX-Profil findet hier ein breiter Kraftangriff statt. Die Übertragung hoher Drehmomente ist dadurch möglich.häufig in der Automobilindustrie , wo mit hohen Drehmomenten hohe Spannkräfte erzeugt werden müssen und gleichzeitig nicht-autorisierte Personen diese Schraubverbindung nicht lösen sollen. Der Unterschied zum Torx Profil besteht an der Anzahl der Zähne (Torx 6, Vielzahn 12).
Das Vielzahn-Profil hat aufgrund seiner sehr feinen Konturen sowie dem damit verbundenen engen Formschluss mit dem Schraubenkopf ein Problem: Schmutz im Mitnahmeprofil der Schraube macht den Zähnen zu schaffen. So verhindern die Ablagerungen im Schraubenkopf das vollständige Einstecken des Bits. Dadurch kann der Bit wie ein Fräser wirken und so Schraube und Werkzeug zerstören.Vielzahn / XZN
Das Vielzahn-Profil ist ähnlich dem Torx-Profil, jedoch mit 12 Zähnchen noch feiner. Dadurch ist die Kraftverteilung noch günstiger und die Übertragung hoher Drehmomente ist dadurch möglich. Anwendung findet dieses Profil hauptsächlich in der Automobilindustrie.Sechskant(innen)
Der Sechskant ist ein weit verbreitetes Profil, da es in der Herstellung relativ günstig. Für die Kraftübertragung ist dies eine relativ ungünstige Konstellation, da die Kerbwirkung sehr hoch ist. Verformungen der Schraube können das Ergebnis dieser Kraftübertragung sein

Während wir in Deutschland uns an eine umgangssprachliche Redensart gewöhnt haben und dieses international genormte „Innenvielzahnprofil“ als Vielzahn-Nüsse oder auch als Vielzahn-Werkzeug usw. bezeichnen, wird das sogenannte „Triple-Square“ System weltweit mit den Kürzeln „XZN“ gehandelt.
Mit der Bezeichnung XZN ist also lediglich das zwölfzackige Innenvielzahnprofil von Schraubenkopfantrieben gemeint. Das Kürzel XZN ist zudem auch sehr leicht erklärt. Denn legt man drei gleich große Quadrate, die jeweils um 30° gedreht sind, übereinander, entsteht eine Form mit zwölf rechtwinkligen Zacken. Sehr simpel eigentlich - wenn man es weiß.
Werkzeug mit Innenvielzahnprofil ist erhältlich als 1/2 Zoll Steckschlüssel (Nuss), Bits, 3/8 Zoll und L-Winkel. In der Regel werden sie aus Edelstahl gefertigt, das sehr widerstandsfähig ist. Wie beispielsweise die beliebte und schon lange bewährte Chrom-Vanadium Legierung, die vorrangig verwendet wird, da dieser Edelstahl nicht rostet und aufgrund seiner flexiblen Eigenschaften nicht ohne weiteres brechen kann.
Für eine optimale Ausrüstung empfiehlt sich immer der Kauf eines ganzen Sets, um bei jeder Anforderung die richtigen Vielzahn Nüsse zusammen zu haben.
