Die Verschiedenheit zwischen einem herkömmlichen Steckschlüsseleinsatz und einer Kraftnuss besteht darin, dass die spezielle Nuss auf einen Maschinenschrauber aufgesetzt wird. Der Steckschlüsseleinsatz wird dementsprechend mit Kraft betätigt. Diese zusätzliche Kraft kann elektrischer Natur sein oder auch durch Druckluft erzeugt werden. Der Unterschied hierbei besteht bei Dreh- und Schlagschraubern. Die Kraftschlüsseleinsätze sind im Grunde robuster aufgebaut als der herkömmliche Steckschlüssel Satz, da sie beim Einsatz in diesen Werkzeugen extrem hohen Widerständen ausgesetzt werden.
Die Maschinen generieren dabei sehr hohen Druck. Natürlich kann man alternativ die Einsätze wie Schlagnüsse oder Kraftnüsse auch in manuellen Werkzeugen benutzen. Es empfiehlt sich jedoch der Einsatz einer entsprechenden Werkzeugmaschine, um die notwendige Kraft beim Lösen oder Festziehen der entsprechenden Schrauben oder Muttern zu erreichen. Bei diesen Maschinen kann es sich zum Beispiel um einen Schlagschrauber handeln, wie sie häufig in KFZ Werkstätten zur Verschraubung der Radmuttern oder Radschrauben verwendet werden. Es lassen sich außerdem mit den hierbei genutzten elektrischen oder mit Druckluft arbeitenden Maschinen vollkommen andere Drehmomente erreichen als mit manuellen Werkzeugen.
Etwas anders sieht es hingegen bei den Kraftsteckschlüsseleinsätzen aus. Die sehen auf der Antriebsseite völlig identisch aus. Auf der Arbeitsseite sind sie jedoch auf besonders stabile Formen wie beispielsweise Außensechskant oder Außenzwölfkant, Innensechskant, Torx sowie Vielzahn angewiesen.
Entscheidend für Hochleistungen in der Verschraubungstechnik ist grundsätzlich der Werkstoff, aus dem die Einsätze gefertigt wurden. Gusseisen und andere starre Metalle versagen immer, da sie sich den hohen Temperaturen nicht aussetzen lassen und die Steifheit nicht zuverlässig aufrechterhalten lässt. Hochleistungswerkzeug wird heutzutage aus Edelstahllegierungen wie 18/10 Chrom-Nickel oder Chrom-Vanadium hergestellt. Edelstahl ist beim Werkzeug das bewährteste und ausgereifteste Metall und garantiert beste Händelbarkeit.
